British defense contractor Babcock has collaborated with Canadian firm AtkinsRéalis to boost engineering services in support of defense and submarine programs in the UK.
The five-year agreement is designed to optimize Babcock's engineering capacity as demand for major military projects increases.
Meanwhile, AtkinsRéalis will provide specialist expertise for defense infrastructure and submarine-related work through a centralized contract system intended to simplify procurement and improve project planning.
Babcock said the arrangement will also improve coordination during the early stages of program development and speed support across multiple defense initiatives.
Similar deals were also signed with nine other suppliers across Babcock’s defense business.
David Tytherleigh, Babcock’s director of growth and strategic procurement for nuclear operations, said the approach would help the company strengthen assistance for complex programs.
“This new supply chain approach allows us to more effectively deliver specialist engineering capability, collaborating with trusted suppliers who are ready to support capacity when required,” he explained.
AtkinsRéalis Defense Infrastructure Market Director Andy Albutt echoed that sentiment, saying that the partnership will aid Babcock in meeting evolving requirements tied to increased defense spending by the UK and allied nations.
“This appointment builds on AtkinsRéalis’ long-standing relationship with Babcock in the UK,” Albutt said, adding that the agreement also expands his company’s footprint across defense infrastructure and new military platforms.
