Babcock International Group has received a two-year contract to extend its Future Maritime Support Program support for the UK Royal Navy.
Babcock International Group has received a two-year contract to extend its Future Maritime Support Program (FMSP) support for the UK Royal Navy.
The FMSP covers critical fleet and infrastructure assistance for specific in-service surface combatants, ensuring that assets are prepared for deployments and on par with modern threats.
Tasks under the latest agreement include technical works and portfolio oversight for the Duke-class (Type 23) frigates, Sandown-class mine countermeasure vessels, amphibious warfare ships, and landing craft systems.
Related activities will be conducted by “highly skilled teams” across Babcock’s centers in Devonport, England, and Rosyth in Scotland.
“This extension is a testament to the dedication and global expertise of the Babcock surface ship support teams across the entire Marine sector and is symbolic of our strong partnership with the [Ministry of Defence],” said Phil Craig, managing director of marine programs at Babcock.
“Together with the Ministry of Defence, and other Surface Ship Support Alliance partners, we will build upon this FMSP extension to engage in the development of subsequent surface ship support contracts which deliver the Royal Navy’s needs in the future.”
From Sea to Air
The agreement follows Babcock’s signing of a separate contract extension for the UK Royal Air Force’s Light Aircraft Flying Task (LAFT) program.
LAFT focuses on engineering and management support for the military’s light aircraft courses in 13 domestic sites.
Work for that effort will run for four years, adding to over 750,000 flight hours accumulated in basic and advanced training provided to aviators across the UK joint forces.
